My Skincare Routine

Sipping on a cup of warm manuka honey green tea to soothe my 'swinging of moods' during that time of the month. Ahhhh... how comforting. As i'm writing this entry, my Chinese friends should be gathering with their loved ones for a reunion dinner. So here's wishing all my Chinese friends a very happy and prosperous new year, Gong Xi Fa Cai! *and I never end it at that* Hong bao na lai! I accept masters, visas and even funds transfers guys. Take your pick!

Once you're done with that, we can get on to this week's post! If it can't get anymore obvious, what I'm about to bring to you today is, lo and behold, in my opinion, the 'best-estestest' skincare routine everrrr. I know most of you may have your own array of preferred skincare products but these to me are the game changer to my skin woes.

Are you one of those who gets home, hop on your bed without removing your makeup or quickly wash off your make up with a cleanser and you're done? You and I my friend, need to do some serious talking right now.

This is my story...  Once upon a time... On a land far far away...  A couple of years back, Nana and I had our fair share of lecture by Mel on our stay-cation one night. We had zero knowledge on skincare; all we knew was we needed to 'cleanse' our face before bedtime and tadaaa! we THOUGHT we're done. I can't describe how flabbergasted Mel was. She whipped out a few cotton pads soaked in makeup remover and looking at all the makeup residue despite the cleanse, was a painful sight.

After that enlightening night, I've got no one but Mel to thank. Mel is more like the big sister to us, always sharing some wise advices. She taught us basics of a proper skincare routine and got myself a complete skincare range the following day! If I had only known much earlier....... I could have done more product reviews! HAHAHA!

My skincare routine has evolved over the years and gradually, I'm switching them to organic products. Your skin needs as much pampering as all the other organs does. So kick your bad habits goodbye and start your skincare proper!

I've tried many makeup removers but NOTHING beats the good ol' Olive Oil which I bet, is sitting on your kitchen counter top right now. It melts down the most stubborn makeup in an instant and doesn't strip the natural oils on your face. Tip: add 1/3 of water/rose water to give that cooling effect.

Once you're done with removing your makeup, cleanse and tone your face using your favourite products. Its important to not leave your pores open! If you don't have a toner, you can opt for organic products such as rose water or apple cider vinegar. They're probably already in you kitchen right now. My cleanser and toner are prescribed by my dermatologist. Remember to be gentle so as to not aggravate your skin.

Hydrate your skin. Even in this humid SG weather your skin still gets dry from the harsh UV rays. My two favourite moisturiser are Apicare Manuka Honey day creme and Origins Ginzing.

The Origins Ginzing has a gel-like consistency which is perfect to use for the day. This just reminded me to get a new one cus i've obviously ran out of it! Meanwhile, the Apicare Manuka Honey moisturiser has a thicker consistency which makes it more suitable for the night time.

Don't forget to hydrate your eye area and lips too! Looking at one's dry lips are my ultimate pet peeve. The Apicare Manuka Honey lip balm is very long lasting. Application is twice a day; once in the morning and another before bedtime.

P.S. Apicare products are available at Metro Centrepoint and Honeyworld in Clifford centre.

These are some of the extra steps you can add to your skincare.

Weekends are usually my skin pampering days when I mask up. I will alternate between the Origins out of trouble mask and the Manuka Honey. Did I say Manuka Honey?? Yeap! You heard that right. I apply Manuka Honey directly on my face! Here's why....

But manuka honey belongs on your bathroom shelf as much as it does in a medical clinic or hospital.

Because it also keeps skin clear, youthful, and hydrated.

Manuka honey works wonders for blemished skin because of its aforementioned natural antibacterial properties. It is also a potent anti-inflammatory, so soothes inflamed skin while healing blemishes. It also helps balance the skin’s pH and contains amino acids which slough away dead skin cells, helping to keep pores clear. In other words: this sticky-sweet substance is your problem skin’s best friend (or worst enemy, depending on which way you want to look at it).

MG has been shown to increase collagen cross-linking, promoting the structural growth of collagen in skin cells. And since amino acids are the building blacks of collagen, they also protect collagen. Healthy collagen means healthy, firm, youthful-looking skin.

Helps skin retain moisture.

Manuka honey is a natural humectant, drawing moisture into the skin. This hydration helps to further enhance the skin’s elasticity and cell regeneration, as well as promote healing.

That's all for my skincare routine guys! Hope to get my hands on other products real soon.. Glam glow masks, Clarisonic and etc. I would love to know what your game changers are. Hit the comment button down below!

Hope everyone have had a wonderful long weekend cus I know I did! Nazz is hitting the Big-3 really soon and I'm psyched to be a part of it. A year older, a year wiser my love.
